Professor Monika Zarzycka, M.S.
Professor Monika Zarzycka is an Instructional Assistant Professor at the University of Houston, Information Systems and Logistics Technology Department. She is also the First Vice-President of the International Graphic Arts Education Association (IGAEA) and a faculty sponsor of the student chapter of IGAEA (IGAEAUH).
Prof. Zarzycka is originally from Poland. She moved to the United States (Kilgore, Texas) in 1996, when she was still in high school. The American family, who took her in, exposed her to graphic design and printing. In 1997, she enrolled in the Advertising/ Graphic Design program at the Kilgore College. She also did a two-year internship at the Kwik Kopy Printing. After obtaining an Associate of Applied Science in 1999, Prof. Zarzycka decided to continue her education at the University of Houston. In August of 2001, Prof. Zarzycka graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Technology Leadership and Supervision and a minor in Graphic Communications Technology.
During her undergraduate studies, Prof. Zarzycka expressed great interest in teaching graphic design and was offered a teaching fellowship for continuing her graduate studies at the University of Houston. Prof. Zarzycka gratefully accepted the offer and taught multimedia and visual communication courses during her graduate studies. In 2003, Prof. Zarzycka graduated with a Master of Science in Training and Development.
After graduation, Prof. Zarzycka worked as a freelance designer and as a trainer, designing interactive web training tutorials, logos, and identity pieces for companies such as Schlumberger. In 2004, Prof. Zarzycka obtained a full-time teaching job as a Multimedia Instructor at the ITT Technical Institute. In 2005, Prof. Zarzycka was asked to assume a full-time teaching position as a Lecturer at the University of Houston (Digital Media, ILT Department), which she gladly accepted. In 2008, she was promoted to an Instructional Assistant Professor. During her work at the UH, Prof. Zarzycka published two articles (awaiting her third publications) in the Visual Communication Journal, obtained four grants, and presented during various IGAEA conferences. She was also selected as the First Vice-President of IGAEA, and assumed the responsibility of designing, editing, and printing different publications.
In 2010, Prof. Zarzycka completed her fourth degree (M.Div), with an emphasis on theology. During her spare time, Prof. Zarzycka teaches theology at her local church. She also enjoys traveling, painting, reading, writing, designing clothes, and working out. She visited over ten countries (including England, Switzerland, France, Germany, and Italy) and about 25 states in the US. She knows two languages fluently (English and Polish) and three languages rudimentary (Spanish, Hebrew, and Greek).
